We arrived at the Hotel Cara Saturday night around 9:30. 15 of 16 bags arrived safely this morning(Sunday) at the airport--half the squad went out to collect, while the other group took a walking/tuk tuk tour of the neighborhood with Phatry, an American expat we met last summer who lives in the hotel and works as a freelance writer. They got to feed Sambo, the famous elephant who lives at Wat Phnom, the little hill in town. The bad news is that the one missing bag--which appears to have gotten to Ho Chi Minh City somehow--has Emily's clothes. But the airport expects to deliver it to the hotel this afternoon.
This afternoon we have a cyclo tour of the city, and the arrangements for Kampot have been shifted a day later, so everything is MOST EXCELLENT! The kids are excited to be here, and to be outside after 35 hours in transit.
We'll get you some photos when the Internet allows.
It's really great when you post messages back to us on the blog! Makes us feel special and loved and missed and all that good stuff.
All the best from SE Asia--
Karen & Steve

Great to hear from you all. I am sure it feels incredible to walk about after 36 hours of travel. I hope Emily gets her clothes soon! Good thing you went with extra clothes, the t-shirts should do Emily fine for the time being.
Keep sending us tales of your travels and photos...they are so great to see.
Happy Sunday to you all-
Best, Katie (Mrs. Powers)
Thanks for the update. I can't begin to imagine 36 hours of travel...the original 24 hrs sound tough enough! Enjoy another night at the Hotel Cara. I'm sure it will be good to have a little more time to acclimate and recoup from a very long trip before you move on. I'm looking forward to seeing more photos when you're able to post them; there must be some amazing sights. Karen, thanks for lending Emily a shirt. I'm sure with the heat and being in the same clothes for several days she was feeling pretty grungy. Be well!
Hugs to all...Liz Smith
Glad to that you all arrived safely. Keep an eye on Mr. Riege and Ms. Bovard-they tend to wander...

Yea!!!!!!! So good to hear that you arrived well and are working out the details - 36hrs of travel - Yikes! - the beginning of your accomplishments and the stories you'll have to tell. It is really wonderful to see your faces and get messages as you are able to send them - especially for those of us who are less travelled and whose imaginations can not do justice to where you are. Lot's of love to all! Barbara Washer
Glad to every that everyone is well and in good spirits. Thirty-five hours in transit and an overnight without luggage is a good test of anyone’s mettle! It sounds like delaying the trip to Kampot was a great idea to give everyone a chance to recuperate.
We’re not sure if it’s reassuring or discouraging to know that China airlines is just as efficient with their schedule and baggage handling as it’s American counterparts. (But to send a bag to the wrong country??!)
Be well and keep in touch. We’re anxious to hear of your adventures.
We are happy that you all survived the long journey. It will make for great converstion later and maybe even a few laughs. Stay strong Emily just think how treasured your clothes will be when they finally arrive! We can't wait to see all the pictures, enjoy yourselves, rest up and it wouldn't be us if we didn't say stay safe. Take Care Terry and Michael
Great to hear from you and know you are there safely. Love being able to get a little feel for all you are seeing this way. Eagerly await the next Blog and photos. What is the weather (temperature) like? What did you feed Sambo? All is well here and enjoying beautiful summer weather. Have fun and stay safe.

Sometimes, I really do love technology! When Ben was there, we were thrilled with the occasional e-mail and photo, but the blog is so great! We are soaking up every detail. So happy that everyone arrived safely, and that you were able to make adjustments to your schedule. Enjoy every well-hydrated, sunscreen-protected moment. (Just a little motherly editorial) Take good care.

What a wonderful experience for all.It appears that coping with time delays, lost luggage, and whatever else might have put a stone in your pathways did not deter any of you in the least. Although we have not met any of you (we are Jocelyns grandparents) we know that this experience will only add to your adult lives. Build many memories & stay safe! We look forward to the photos & blogs so please post whenever you can. Al & Elaine Packman
Hey! OK, so I had to ask how to use this screen. Glad to hear you are all there. Wish we were with you!
